The expense of a wedding can be overwhelming and totally unnecessary. Try our simple style ideas to add a personal and colorful touch, while keeping your savings in the bank.

These easy-to-make holders use lamp part accessories, including a brass vase cap, shade clip, bolts, and washers.

Check out lampshop.com for the supplies. Spray paint white and use to hold names, table numbers, or to identify buffet foods, etc.

The same tissue paper flowers you made as a kid can be fashioned into a perfect little bouquet for a flower girl. She'll appreciate that it will last forever, and you won't have the worry of keeping a fresh bouquet looking good. Arrange the flowers in a tiny silver bud vase.

Jenny and I often give an ironstone platter as a wedding gift. It comes in handy when entertaining friends and each other’s families. Mixing bowls are another nice and practical purchase. Choose white to go with the bride and groom’s other collections and fill with some ingredients and kitchen utensils. We assembled this at Home Goods with two mixing bowls, a wooden spoon, and spatula, and then added flour, sugar, and eggs so the bride and groom could whip up their first batch of cookies together.

Plan your wedding during the warmer months and chances are good someone you know will have a backyard of inspirational flowers. We gathered ferns, Hosta leaves, Queen Anne's Lace, and Larkspur from the garden and mixed it with white roses from the local florist. Wrap the ends of the bouquet with ribbon and attach a small piece of costume jewelry. We used a sparkling bracelet to wrap around the stems. Once the ceremony is over, place the bracelet on your wrist to wear during the reception. Plunge the flower stems in water to enjoy your bouquet for many days to come.

If you want something different and personal for your wedding invite, try gathering envelopes and note cards at stores like TARGET. We found these colorful invites for less then $4.00 for 6 cards. Use photo shop to create your own invitations and slip them into these colorful and very “custom looking“ envelopes.
