Collecting animal planters can be terrific fun. You can se them to hold common items like writing utensils or cotton balls. Or line them with wax paper and serve cookies or fill with wrapped hard candy. Put three similar animal planters in a row along a window sill to add a neat touch to any room. Flower frogs can hold blooms from the cutting garden. We have a friend who found a small bowl that fit perfectly into a turtle planter, so she turned it into a decorative bowl for her cat. Take a second look at these planters and use your imagination to create some fun looks for spring.

My wife loves “hydrangea blue” the way car maker Tucker’s wife loved “waltz blue.”

She wants to always have a bit of it somewhere in our home. She found this beautiful shade in an
array of different items from floral paintings to book covers, but she wanted something for a shelf we have in our kitchen picture window. Jenny scoured our prop shelves and amassed this great collection of vases and pottery pieces in all shades of the pallet from green to blue. We filled the windowsill, and each week place fresh tulips or daffodils in them to welcome spring.

Collecting something new can be just as much fun and rewarding as collecting treasures from the past. We believe in using your antiques; however, it’s important to be realistic about their fragility. A reproduction Bauer bowl, for example, looks great with your vintage ones, and you don’t have to worry about everyday wear and tear or breaking it. I collected all of these great bowls at Abode Home Furnishings in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (see secret sources). The colors inspired the web site this time and I love the way they work together. Best of all, they are new and I can go get more.
