If you haven’t heard, “Matthew Mead Halloween” is in stores now. And for the next few weeks, I’ll be blogging about the “behind the scenes” process involved in its creation.  And, yes, there will be A VERY BIG CONTEST, IN CONJUNCTION WITH LINDA, AT RESTYLED HOME.

It was late fall 2007, and my wife Jenny was recovering from back surgery. All the trees had lost their leaves.  Its was that time of year between the splendor of fall and the real gray onslaught of winter. That pivotal point when you realize that you are headed into the deep freeze.  Out of the blue, there was a phone call from TIME,  INC., and instantly I was on top of the world with an amazing opportunity to create a fabulous HALLOWEEN magazine in the same style as my HOLIDAY ISSUE from December 2006.

Suddenly, there was a glow in everything  I see (an orange one for that matter),and my thoughts turned to everything Halloween.  But wait … there wasn’t a pumpkin to be found.  Halloween accouterments were all sold out.  There wasn’t a stray costume, no treat bags, not a ghost or goblin lurking in dark alleys.  Nothing to inspire me for the season.  What to do?
