Sad passings and things to look forward too.
I’ve got two great final stories in the final, last ever issue of Country Home Magazine. One is on oversized stenciling (its really fun and fresh) in beautiful paint colors and a lovely story on a spring/Easter outdoor party for kids. It was shot in early spring and the shades of green are lush and gorgeious and so chartruese (it is vivid… like a dream). Make sure you pick up a copy when it comes out in February. I will buy some extra copies and have a final signed copy edition contest with a special added prize… so stay tuned.
Here is a glimpse of the a staircase with an oversized runner… one of my favorite DIY stories of all times. So easy to do with such amazing results. We did walls, furniture and other great pieces.
In other news, I’ve been working on some ideas for my own line of fabrics (thank you Tanya Whealan of Grand Revival) and I am really attracted to graphic blues and browns. What are your favorite color ways and what are you looking for in a quilting and/or home dec fabric. Here’s a sneak peak.
Thank you all for all the kind notes about Country Home and your concerns about my future. I think lots of answers and new direction will come after the Presidential Inauguration, Send me some notes on the patterns here… just imagine all the things we can make with these great fabrics.

Hi Matthew:
Great to see you enter the fabric design world. I recently walked thru a fabric store and didn’t see anything that inspired me… I like the look of bold & fresh with all my antiques & vintage finds….it brings my 150 year home into this century.
Regarding good things coming after January 20th — couldn’t agree more. I fly out to Washington in a week to lobby on Capital Hill on behalf of children — and I look forward to feeling a renewed energy there!
Why not title your new line, “Hope”!!

I really miss the beautiful Laura Ashley fabrics…and no they were
not all flowers i.e. The Bloomsbury Collection. Anyway, I would
love to see fabrics with slight texture. I am an artist and finding the
right fabrics can sometimes be a challenge. Also, I love textiles
from India and Morroco. Just the beautiful rich and warm tones
you see in those types of fabric. Your fabrics are beautiful I look
forward to seeing more. Lastly, I am sad to hear about Country
Home. A lot of inspiration has come from the magazine.
Thank you.

Spring will come early here in Louisiana and your post was very inspirational! Can’t wait to get my hands on your fabric!

Matthew,
I would buy your fabric! Hope you can get something on the shelves asap…I am terribly bored and disappointed with the selections currently available. You are a true colorist!
Peace,
Ki

The lose of Country Home is like loosing a member of ones family. I LOVED this magazine. Matthew perhaps you could fill a niche here with a something of your own?? The photography was unmatched, each page a work of art. There is nothing eles out there like it, this along with the passing of Mary Englebreight’s Home Companion, leaves little out there in the way of creative magazines. Cynthia
